GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University men's basketball team will enter the 2015-16 season as the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) favorites after being picked first in the first-ever preseason coaches poll. The Bison accumulated 129 points with three first-place and seven second-place votes.
The Bison are coming off a fantastic 2014-15 season where they set two new school records for conference wins (14) and overall wins in a season (18). The Bison, who finished second in the NEAC South Division regular season, accumulated an 18-7 record and 14-4 mark in conference play. GU's season ended in the NEAC tournament quarterfinal round
"Its a nice to be recognized but we must understand that it is all on paper and we know that we are not the No. 1 team until we earn that spot at the end of the season," said Gallaudet men's basketball first-year coach Kevin Kovacs.
Lancaster Bible College checks in at No. 2 with 128 points and six first-place votes followed by Morrisville State College in third place with 120 points and two first-place votes. SUNY Polytechnic Institute was fourth with 103 points and two first-place votes. SUNY Cobleskill, the defending NEAC champions, came in seventh with 76 points.
The Bison will open their season on Sunday, Nov. 15, at Yeshiva University at 1 p.m. The game will be webstreamed live here.
