Gallaudet set to host NEAC Men's Basketball Tournament this weekend

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University will host this weekend's 2016-17 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's basketball tournament in the Field House. This is the first time GU has hosted the men's basketball Final Four weekend since it joined the conference in 2010-11.

Three quarterfinal round games will be played Tuesday night with the winners advancing to the NEAC semifinals. Gallaudet (20-5), the top seed, is the only school that received a bye to the semifinal round after it won the NEAC South Division regular season and held the tiebreaker over SUNY Poly, the NEAC North Division regular-season champion.

The Bison will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, against the quarterfinal winner between Wells College (17-8) and Morrisville State College (19-6). Ironically, GU's two conference losses this season came against those schools.

In between the two semifinal games there will be an awards ceremony to announce the 2016-17 All-NEAC men's basketball teams and Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards.

The second semifinal at 4 p.m. will pit the quarterfinal winner of SUNY Poly (19-6) vs. Cazenovia College (9-16) against either Lancaster Bible College (12-13) or Bryn Athyn College (10-15).

The winners of the semifinal games will advance to Sunday's championship game (Feb. 26) that will tip at 2 p.m. The winner of the NEAC tournament championship will earn the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament that begins the following weekend. An official awards ceremony will take place after the championship game.

Gallaudet last won a conference title in 1942-43, when the Iron Five won the 1943 Mason-Dixon Championship. GU has only won two men's basketball conference titles in its history (1918-19, 1942-43).

Gallaudet's Sports Information Office will supply live statistics and live video for all three games.

Tickets will be sold on game day and will be $5 for adults while children 12 and under are free. Gates open one hour prior to the schedule start time. Food and drinks will be sold at the Bison Zone in the lobby. Free parking is available on campus either in the Field House parking garage or 6th St. parking garage.
