Bison defense holds Christendom scoreless for over 40 minutes

FRONT ROYAL, Va. - Christendom College jumped out early on the Gallaudet University men's soccer team Wednesday evening as the Crusaders scored four quick goals within the first 14 minutes of play. From there the Bison defense held the Crusaders scoreless for over 40 minutes before Christendom added two final goals en route to a 6-0 victory at Sherando Park in Front Royal, Va.

Gallaudet (0-3) defense led by sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) along with defenders Michael Chatham (Trenton, N.J.), Ethan White (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio) played well during the scoreless stretch for the Buff and Blue. The defenders and GU midfielders played good team defense and even made two team saves on what would had been two additional Crusader goals. GU recorded six saves in the second half as Qobose concluded the game with seven saves in 90 minutes of play.

Christendom (2-0) was paced by Peter McNeely and Anthony Readings, who scored two goals apiece. Michel Bugin assisted both of Readings' first half goals. The Crusaders scored the game's first goal two minutes in off the foot of Nicholas Blank on an assist from Ryan Doughty. The prettiest goal of the day came from Paul Nagurai, who tapped the ball to himself in the GU goalie box and fired a shot past Qobose in the 56th minute. McNeely closed out the scoring in the game with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute.

The Crusaders held a 25-6 shot advantage over the Bison while Christendom took seven more corner kicks, 8-1. GU had two shots on goal from junior forward Zane Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and fellow junior midfielder Pantong Dashwet (Jos, Nigeria).

Christendom is a member of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) and a member of the Shenadoah-Chesapeake Conference but not a NCAA program.

Gallaudet will next participate in the Scarlet Raiders Classic this weekend in Newark, N.J., as the Bison face Rutgers-Newark and Kean University in the two-day tournament.
