Qobose records 21 saves as Bison hold Rutgers-Newark scoreless in second half

NEWARK, N.J. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team played its best game of the season to date on Saturday against Rutgers-Newark on the first day of the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic in Newark, N.J. The Bison lost 4-0 but the GU defense played a scoreless second half in the lowest scoring game this season for the Buff and Blue.
Sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) set a new season-high mark with 21 saves against the Scarlet Raiders (2-1-2) as the Bison keeper stopped 11 shots in both halves. Rutgers-Newark held a commanding 43-0 shot advantage over Gallaudet. This was the first time this season the Bison have been held without a shot.
Marin Gjoca scored the first two goals of the game, in a four-minute span, to put Rutgers-Newark up early. Christien Vlahinich and Jervis Witherspoon added unassisted goals later in the first half as the Scarlet Radiers led 4-0 at the half.
The Bison will next face Kean University on the second day of the Scarlet Raider Soccer Classic on Sunday, September 13, at Noon.
