Gallaudet drops first road conference game

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer program dropped its first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) road game of the season on Monday afternoon against St. Mary's (Md.) College. The host Seahawks shut out the Bison, 9-0, in St. Mary's City, Md.

St. Mary's (3-5, 1-2 CAC) earned its first conference win behind two goals apiece from Ted Scharfenberg and Chris Quamina, who also added two and one assist, respectively. The Seahawks led 3-0 at halftime before they put the game away in the second half with six goals. SMCM had seven different goal scorers in the win. St. Mary's outshot Gallaudet 55-1 and took 10 corner kicks.

Sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) made 19 saves in the loss for the Bison (0-7, 0-2 CAC). GU also had two team saves.

This is the sixth shutout the Bison have suffered this season and the second in conference play. All three St. Mary wins this season have been by shut out.

Gallaudet will next travel to Dover, Del., to Wesley College under the lights on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. in another CAC road game.
