Gallaudet completes NEAC schedule with loss to Penn St.-Abington
ABINGTON, Pa. – The first season in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) for the Gallaudet University men's soccer team wrapped up on Sunday with a 2-0 road loss against Penn St.-Abington. The Bison (1-16) finish their first season in the new conference with a 1-8 mark.
Penn St.-Abington (9-6-1, 6-2-1 NEAC) scored two second half goals after the teams battled to a scoreless tie at halftime. Michael Alarcon scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute followed by a Matthew Howard goal, 12 minutes later, off an assist from Sebastian Hernandez.
The Lions outshot the Bison 31-5, 16-1 in the first half, and held a 9-2 advantage on corner kicks.
GU junior goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) finished the game with seven saves. Senior defender Serge Okogo (Libreville, Gabon) led the team with two shots in the loss.
Gallaudet will close out the 2010 season at home on Friday, October 29, when the Bison welcome Salem International to Hotchkiss Field for a 5 p.m. Homecoming game.
