GU win streak snapped as Bryn Athyn nets three goals in second half

WASHINGTON, D.C. - An early 1-0 lead evaporated in the second half as the Gallaudet University men's soccer team fell 3-1 to Bryn Athyn College(1-2) on Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field to end their two-game winning streak to start the season. Two second half goals by Lions forward Ik Jin Yu secured the victory for the Lions and dropped the Bison's record to 2-1 on the season.

Jin Yu punched in his first goal of the game from 20 yards out as he beat Bison goalkeeper Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.) with a quick shot to the lower left corner of the goal in the 54th minute to even the game at 1-1. Forward Blake McCurdy put the Lions ahead for good in the 63rd minute on James Lindrooth's pass and Jin Yu added the insurance goal in the 71st minute to complete the scoring.

The Bison got on the scoreboard in the first half with an unassisted goal by Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia) and controlled the pace for the first 45 minutes. Setzer shut out the Lions and the Bison offense remained on the attack throughout the first half with 10 shots. The team struggled to create many opportunities in the second half as their first shot of the second half came with just under four minutes to play in the game.

Bryn Athyn outshot Gallaudet, 21-12, as Jin Yu and forward Mark Apedo took six shots each while netminder Johnny Walker made six saves. Intsons led the way for the Bison with four shots on goal while Setzer saved seven of the 10 shots that came his way.

The Bison look to rebound at home on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m. vs. Southern Virginia University at Hotchkiss Field.
