WASHINGTON - A strong start and a well played game by Gallaudet University men's soccer team was not enough as they fell to Wells College, 3-1, here Sunday at Hotchkiss Field in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.
Gallaudet (3-7-1, 2-4-1 NEAC) outshot Wells (6-2-2, 3-0-2 NEAC) in the back and forth action, but an early goal put the Bison on their heels as they played much of Sunday's game from behind. The Bison tied the game in second half, but a costly defensive blunder just minutes later gave Wells the lead and tempo to finish the game with a win.
Freshman Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas) scored the lone goal for the Bison on header from an Angel Ortiz (New York, N.Y.) throw-in in the 55th minute. The Gallaudet defense was lead by freshman goalie Jacob Guertler (Staunton, Va.), who made a leaping stop in the first half and tallied five saves. This was his first start of the season in goal.
- Gutierrez had three shots for the Bison
- Gallaudet took four corner kicks
- Ortiz tallied his fifth assist of the season
- GU held a 10-9 edge in shots
The Bison will next play on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4:15 p.m. as they travel to Pennsylvania to play Lancaster Bible College (4-6, 2-4 NEAC).
