ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Gallaudet University senior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished his stellar career with the Bison on Saturday at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the United States Naval Academy as he competed at the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) swimming and diving open championships.
Bennett swam in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries in the second of eight heats. Bennett was one of 68 swimmers, a lot from Division I and II programs, to compete in this event. He finished with a time of 1:49.75, 10 seconds off the first-place time set by Bryant University senior Alex Kosenski (1:39.46). The top 16 swimmers in the 200 freestyle advanced to Saturday night’s final.
Bennett helped to lead Gallaudet to a second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship last weekend in Cazenovia, N.Y. Bennett was named the NEAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year for a second time in a row. Bennett, a transfer student from Northern Colorado, put together an incredible career at Gallaudet in just two seasons. He re-wrote the GU record book as he leaves with six individual event records and was part of four record-setting relays.
