GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its conference student-athlete of the week awards for the week of Nov. 7 and Gallaudet University's freshman Benjamin Sealts (Ottawa, Ohio) was selected as the NEAC Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Sealts had a record-setting performance against Elizabethtown last Saturday. Despite Gallaudet's team loss, Sealts won two events and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke. In the 200-yard individual medley, the Bison rookie set a new school record by more than four seconds with a time of 2:02.31 to win the event. Sealts also won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:26.22 to finish nearly two minutes ahead of the second-place swimmer.
Cazenovia College's Nichole Secor was selected as the NEAC Women's Swimmer of the Week. Secor, a senior for the Wildcats, took first place in four events as Cazenovia won its invitational. In the 200-yard freestyle, she finished with a time of 2:06.80. Secor bested seven other competitors in the 100-yard freestyle with a final time of 58.07. She also won the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard medley handily with times of 5:44.71 and 4:36.19, respectively.
This is Gallaudet's first NEAC Swimmer of the Week honor this season and Sealt's first career NEAC award.
Gallaudet will dive into North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) competition next Saturday, Nov. 11, in Allentown, Pa., as they face Wells College at 1 p.m.
