Leading the way
for the swim team has been sophomore captain Carlisle Robinson, who
recently broke Stephanie Danner’s 100 IM record by going
1:05.75 at the Second Annual Buff-n-Blue meet, and has been a
practice stalwart all year. Robinson has been joined by
senior Marissa Larson, junior Katie Day, and sophomore Misella
Tomita in putting together relays capable of additional team
records. Despite a back injury, first year Rachel Steingieser
has been a pleasant surprise and first year swimmer Colleen Doyle
has improved dramatically from the first day of
practice.
On
the men’s side, sophomore sensation Jimmy McGowan suffered a
separated shoulder in the double dual meet versus York College and
Penn St.-Altoona, and is questionable for the remainder of the
season. In his absence, freshman Zsolt Plasko, sophomore
Daniel DiDonna, junior Kris Lauderbaugh, freshman Grady Gallagher,
sophomore Trey Balding, junior Josh Feldman, sophomore Kyle Dacus
and sophomore Kyle Sexton have been forced to step it up a
notch.
After a week off during Thanksgiving break, the Aqua-Bison will re-enter the pool on Monday December 1, before final exams start the week after. Winter training begins Monday January 5th.
Noted head coach Bill Snape: “While we all would like a team win, the beauty of swimming is that you can literally gauge your progress against the clock. Under that measure, our season has been an undeniable success thus far. Our swimmers will be hungry against Hollins and Salem to notch a win. I am confidant we will make waves.”
Snape added, “The strength of this team is our depth in clutch situations, and our incredible team spirit. Led by our captains, Robinson and senior Scott Cohen, as well as role swimmers such as Kira Roberts, Cloe Canela, Breeana Baker, Elizabeth Steyer, Vincent DiMare Skyler Carpenter, Robert Chorniak and Clayton Anderson, our second half of the season looks bright.”
