A third NEAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week award for GU’s Brian Bennett

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards and for the third time this season junior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named the men’s swimming and diving recipient for the week of December 13.

Bennett was a member of two first-place relay teams for Gallaudet (4-3) last Saturday as the Bison defeated Salem International (W.Va.) University with a solid 72-11 non-conference victory at the Field House pool. Bennett helped to set another program record as the Bison won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:32.47. A week earlier, Bennett helped GU set the 200 freestyle relay school record. Bennett also was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay team. The junior was also the first to touch the wall in the 100-yard butterfly (59.62 seconds).

This marks the fifth NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week award for the GU swimming program. Bennett earned honors last week (December 6) and back on November 1 while freshman DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) was honored on November 15 along with women’s swimmer Misella Tomita (Kahului, Hawaii). Gallaudet now has 10 NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week awards for this season.

The swim program is off until the New Year when the Bison will next dive into the pool on Saturday, January 22, in Frederick, Md., against Hood College at 1 p.m.
