DJ Everton-Lovell earns the NEAC Men's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week award
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week selections for Dec. 5, and Gallaudet University sophomore D.J. Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) was named NEAC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week after a dominant performance Saturday at the Field House pool.
Everton-Lovell won three individual events and a relay to help the Bison (4-2-1, 2-0 NEAC) defeat NEAC rival Wells College (2-3, 1-1 NEAC), 155-117. The sophomore took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:28.36), the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.52), and the 400-yard individual medley (5:03.45). He was also a part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team along with seniors Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.), James McGowan (Palm Coast, Fla.), and Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio). That group narrowly missed a Gallaudet program record of 1:49.52 with a time of 1:49.88.
Everton-Lovell received this honor once last year as well, being selected for the week of Nov. 15, 2010. Bennett, last season’s NEAC Men’s Swimmer of the Year, has won three NEAC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week honors this season.
Gallaudet will step out of conference this week and will be tested in York, Pa., against former Capital Athletic Conference foe York (Pa.) College and Penn St.-Altoona on Friday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. This is the last meet of the semester for the Bison.
