Thomas Withrow returns to Gallaudet University in the fall of 2009 to take over the men's and women's track and field head coach position. Withrow returns to Gallaudet after a five-year hiatus. In 2004, Withrow led the Bison to a third-place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference men's track and field championships. For his efforts he was named CAC Co-Coach of the Year. Withrow took a break from coaching to be with his family.

"One of my goals is to put GU track and field back on the map and pick-up where I left off in '04," said Withrow. "I want to build a solid program where we send student-athletes to NCAA Division III championships and produce All-Americans."

Withrow previously held the GU track and field head coach position from 2002-04. He started as the throws coach for GU from 1989-90 and later returned to the same position from 1997-2001. Withrow has been the head coach of the United States of America Deaflympics Track and Field program from 2000 to present. He is also the current president of the USA Deaf Track and Field program, a position he has held for over 10 years since 1998. He started coaching in 1982-84 at the California School for the Deaf before he moved onto the Texas School for the Deaf in 1985-88. Withrow is a proud Gallaudet University graduate (Class of 1982).

"My philosophy is to coach and teach our student-athletes tools that they can apply while in competition or away from athletics and in the classrooms. Track and field is a process sport and so is life," said Withrow. "We need to recruit pure track and field student-athletes to Gallaudet. We have a great Athletics Department and excellent facilities in addition to what GU can offer academically."

Withrow resides in Glenn Dale, Md., with his wife Heather and their two children. Withrow will begin his GU duties in October after he returns from the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei.
