Bison brave elements at 3rd Annual Hood College Open

WALKERSVILLE, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's cross country team braved the elements on Saturday at the third annual Hood College Open held at a wet and soggy Heritage Farm Park. The Bison had four runners complete the 8,000-meter course as they just missed a team score by one runner.

Freshman Max Wilding (Colorado Springs, Colo.) beat his personal best time this season as he was the first Gallaudet runner to cross the finish line in 75th place out of 123 runners. Wilding's time was 32 minutes and 52 seconds. Close behind was sophomore Ando Ferguson (Washington, D.C.) who also improved on his best time this season (36:29) as he finished 88th overall (34:56).

The final two Bison runners were senior James Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Richard Camacho (Medford, Ore.) who finished 114th and 121st, respectively. Martin crossed in a time of 39:56 while Camacho was further back at 44:12.

The race was a great preview for the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference championships that Hood is hosting on Saturday, November 7.

CAC member York (Pa.) College won the team event with 45 points as the Spartans had their top five runners finish in the top 13 spots. Washington & Jefferson freshman Scott Ryan won the race in 28 minutes and four seconds.

Gallaudet is off until the CAC championships.
