CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Gallaudet University finished 16th overall out of 22 teams at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday as the Bison men’s cross country team accumulated 490 points. DeSales won the meet with 35 points as it’s top three runners finished in the Top 5. Nate Noll finished the 8K course in 26 minutes, 12 seconds to win the race. Franklin & Marshall was second in the team standings with 44 points followed by Oswego State (129 points), King’s (Pa.) (147) and Washington & Lee (150).
GU freshman Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) placed just outside the Top 25 in 26th place when he crossed the finish line in 28 minutes, 20 seconds. Fellow freshman Ivan Alfaro (Yakima, Wash.) was the next Bison to finish in 96th place with a time of 30:09. The third Gallaudet runner was freshman John Horton (Vancouver, British Columbia) in 168th place (32:40) followed by sophomore Chris Davis (Stillwater, Okla.) in 196th place (34:27). The fifth and final Gallaudet runner to finish and earn team points was sophomore James Glenn (Wichita, Kan.), who was 215th overall (38:24). Two other Bison ran in the race and finished including freshman Neal Matthews (Kent Island, Md.) in 220th place (41:07) and junior Evan Saltz (Coconut Creek, Fla.) in 224th place (42:47) out of 225 runners.
Gallaudet is next slated to participate in the Hood College Open Meet on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in Thurmont, Md., in the final tune-up before the North Eastern Athletic Conference championships.
