NEVILLE, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men’s cross country team placed 22nd overall at the Dickinson Long/Short Course Invitational on Saturday held at Big Spring High School. The men’s long course featured 26 teams from all across the region.
Allegheny placed first as a team in the long course standings with 25 points as Bobby Over won the race in 26 minutes, 10 seconds. The host Red Devils was second with 30 points followed by Navy (33 points), Swarthmore (47) and Lynchburg (72). Gallaudet accumulated 275 points and finished ahead of Goucher College (277), Lycoming (310), Rosemont (326) and Garrett College (345). North Eastern Athletic Conference rival Penn St.-Berks finished just ahead of Gallaudet in 21st place (265 points).
Freshman Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) was the first Bison to cross the finish line in 94th place with a time of 28 minutes, 53 seconds. Fellow freshman Ivan Alfaro (Yakima, Wash.) followed in 154th place (30:29). John Horton (Vancouver, British Columbia) was the next Bison across the finish line in 113th place (34:29). Evan Saltz (Coconut Creek, Fla.) rounds out the Bison scoring as he finished 233rd overall (43:11).
Gallaudet is off next week before it participates in the DeSales Invitational in Center Valley, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m.
