Bison teams place sixth at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Weekend Classic

MARCY, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) host SUNY Polytechnic Institute, formerly known as SUNYIT, for the 2nd annual SUNY Poly Wildcat Weekend Classic on Saturday. The two Bison teams placed sixth overall in their respective races.

Gallaudet sophomore Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) continues to lead the way for the Bison men's team as he completed the 8K course in 29 minutes, 25 seconds, to finish eighth overall. This is the second straight meet Close has finished in the top 10 for the Bison.

Freshman Dylan Rich (Brockton, Mass.) finished just outside the top 10, 17th overall, with a time of 30:23. Senior Gabriel Carino (Bronx, N.Y.) finished in 43rd place (35:02) while freshman John Isaacson (Clive, Iowa) was 52nd (36:25). Freshmen runners Joshua Branscomb (Memphis, Tenn.) and James Weichel (Bradenton, Fla.) finished 57th (37:40) and 58th (37:52), respectively, out of 68 runners.

Mohawk Valley Community College sophomore Todd Stevens won the men's race with a time of 27 minutes, 44 seconds but SUNY Polytechnic Institute won the men's team title with 31 points. Mohawk Valley Community College had four runners in the top 14 spots to take second place (41 points) followed by Onondaga Community College (93), Broome Community College (131), Herkimer Community College (132), Gallaudet University (153), Hudson Valley Community College (162) and Cazenovia College (197).

In the women's 5K race, junior Lindsey Corthell (Orlando, Fla.) finished in the top 25, placing 24th with a time of 24 minutes, 35 seconds. Just outside the top 25 was senior Rachel Young (Leesburg, Va.), who clocked a time 25:16 to finish 29th. Right behind Young was freshman Ivy Sahneyah (Tempe, Ariz.) in 38th place (26:46). Jamila Hubbard (Montezuma, Ga.) and Elizabeth Reza (Jefferson, Ga.) finished 47th (29:40) and 50th (30:20), respectively, out of 56 runners.

Mohawk Valley Community College sophomore Stephanie Boucher won the women's race with a time of 20:01. Her team Mohawk Valley Community College also took the women's team title with 44 points. Cazenovia College had four runners in the top 14 spots to take second place (55 points) followed by Herkimer Community College (75), Brad College (98), Broome Community College (118), Gallaudet University (152) and SUNY Polytechnic Institute (168).

The Bison cross country teams are off for two weeks when they will compete on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Goucher Cross Country Classic in Towson, Md.
