NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the men's and women's cross country all-region honorees for NCAA Division III this season and Gallaudet University freshman Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) was named one of 280 men's runners and one of 35 from the Mideast region.
Kingstedt placed 20th overall at the 2015 NCAA Division III Mideast regional as he finished with a career best time of 26 minutes, two seconds, at Newville, Pa., on Nov. 14. Kingstedt had quite the rookie debut as he set four of Gallaudet's Top 10 times in 8K races and won the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's 8K championship race on Oct. 31 with a time of 26:32. The Sweden native, was named the 2015 NEAC Men's Runner of the Year and the 2015 Men's Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the all-conference first team.
Byron Evans of Morrisville State College was the only other NEAC runner to earn all-region honors. A total of 560 student-athletes (280 men and 280 women) from 244 programs earned the distinction by finishing among the top 35 individuals at one of the eight regional sites.
Gallaudet has never earned an USTFCCCA All-America honor for men's cross country since the awards were started in 1973. Betsy Bachtel was a two-time All-American runner for the Gallaudet women's cross country program in 1985 and '86.
