Softball closes out season on twinbill victories

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Gallaudet picked up a pair of wins in 18-2 and 11-8 decisions over St. Paul's College. The Bison also bade farewell to seniors Colleen Tighe, Jenna Owens and Lori Hower. Coach Sarah Doleac paid tribute to her seniors in a pre-game ceremony.

The Buff and Blue racked up 29 runs off 22 hits next to the Tigers' 10 runs and 12 hits. Lori Hower went 3-for-3 in game one, with six RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Casey McCullough stepped up in game two, matching Hower's 3-for-3, including two scores and two RBI.

McCullough's freshman teammate, Amanda Smith, led game two with four RBI. Smith belted a three-run RBI double in the bottom of the second to bring Colleen Caverly, McCullough and Keri Schmidt home.

Colleen Tighe pitched a complete game one and finished game two with two innings of work in the pitcher's circle. Tighe fanned 10 batters in the first outing, adding another strikeout in game two for a total of 11 K's. Jenna Owens, who started game two, struck out three.

The Bison won seven games this season, extending Coach Sarah Doleac's record-breaking run as Gallaudet softball's winningest head coach. Doleac has amassed 236 career victories to date.
