GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week awards for March 4 and Gallaudet University senior center fielder Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) was selected as the NEAC Softball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Johnson led the Bison to a perfect 4-0 record to start the season, batting .500 (7-for-14) with three doubles, three walks drawn, three runs scored and a stolen base while posting a .714 slugging percentage and a .588 on-base percentage. Johnson had a hit in all four contests and two hits in three straight games, which included the Bison's 9-5 victory over Baptist Bible (Pa.) College where she posted a two-run double. She also scored two big runs in Gallaudet's exciting 12-11 nine-inning victory over Mary Baldwin College last Sunday to complete the doubleheader sweep and leave the Bison with an unblemished record to open the year.
This is the first time a NEAC Softball Student-Athlete of the Week award has been selected for the 2013 season. SUNY Cobleskill's Erin Wadsworth was picked as the NEAC Softball Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week.
The weekly award is the second in Johnson's career as she was honored on April 2, 2012. Johnson is a two-time All-NEAC honoree including a first team appearance last year.
GU takes on Notre Dame of Maryland University in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m.
