LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Gallaudet University junior Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) was among 21 softball players who earned honorable mention for the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) Division III National Player and Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 3.
This is the second time this season Barlow has earned this honor from the NFCA. The first baseman/pitcher, went 11-for-16 in four games and finished the week with a team-best .687 batting average with five runs, six RBI, two doubles, one triple and four stolen bases. Gallaudet closed out the season with a 3-1 record last weekend in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.
Barlow finished the season on a high note as she went 7-for-9 (.778) in a doubleheader sweep of College of Saint Elizabeth on the road. She drove in six runs, scored four times, stole four bases and hit two doubles.
The National Player of the Week went to junior catcher Delaney Sylvester from Suffolk University. She batted .715with eight runs scores, four walks, two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI.
The National Pitcher of the Week went to sophomore Anna Gernant from Calvin College as she tossed four shutouts in her five starts last week, including a no-hitter against Albion as she struck out 11 batters. She recorded 58 strikeouts over 35 innings with no earned runs allowed.
The Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.
This is the fourth time a Gallaudet Bison softball player has earned honorable mention honors this season for the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player and Pitcher of the Week.
