CLERMONT, Fla. - Gallaudet University closed out it's Florida Spring Break trip here with its second tripleheader in two days. The Bison were swept on the day as they fell to Western New England, Concordia-Wisconsin and Lasell College by the scores of 9-0, 14-3, 12-3, respectively.
Western New England 9, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
Gallaudet fell behind early in the game when Western New England scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the second as the Bison trailed 3-0.
Although the game was within reach, the Bison were unable to respond.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, GU found themselves stuck on the field. Western New England took advantage, scoring once on a passed ball and three more times after Corianna DeLisi doubled to center field to knock in three more runs and give Western New England a 7-0 lead over the Bison.
Gallaudet was once again held off the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth innings while Western New England added another two runs in the fourth as the game ended in the fifth.
The Bison were held to just three hits in the game.
Concordia-Wisconsin 14, Gallaudet 3 (F/5)
After being shut out in the first game, the Bison looked to rebound against the Falcons of Concordia-Wisconsin.
Gallaudet jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first when senior Jordan Hogan (Severn, Md.) doubled to knock in junior outfielder Katelyn Koester (Buffalo, N.Y.) and junior shortstop Courtney Thomas (Yorkville, Ill.). Later in the inning, junior Genesis Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas) singled home Hogan.
However, the Falcons stormed back scoring four runs to take the lead in the bottom of the first, 4-3.
At the start of the second inning, the Falcons brought in Amy Kornowski at pitcher who held the Bison to three hits and no runs for the next three innings.
With GU's offense stunted, Concordia (Wis.) was able to build an extensive lead. The Falcons would go onto score four runs in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to take an 11-run lead, 14-3.
The game ended in fifth due to the eight-run mercy rule after the Bison failed to score.
Lasell 12, Gallaudet 3
Sophomore Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) made her collegiate pitching debut, but was replaced after giving up nine runs on nine hits in two innings of work.
Darriyan Thomas was replaced by Hogan in the third who kept the Lasers from scoring until the seventh inning when the they added three more runs to their lead.
Gallaudet was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second when senior catcher Adele Fass (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grounded out to second base as Koester darted home from third base.
GU scored again in the third when junior Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) reached on an error to plate Courtney Thomas. The Bison added another run in the seventh when Rodriguez singled to bring in Fass.
The Bison return to home and will host a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 25, against Christendom College at 11 a.m. and SUNY Delhi at 3 p.m.
