Hail, Lady Victory!

Washington, D.C. (11/25/06)—Head Coach Kylan Loney watched as her unit blew out of the gates and took command of the home opener against Southern Vermont, 78-49.  Junior forward Shabnam “Shabby” Razmpour had a solid night on the floor, leading the team with 16 points and sharing the team lead off the boards with Brittany Payne, tacking 8 apiece.  Senior Tamara Foronda, fresh off her volleyball endeavors netted 11 points and a pick from the Mounties’ offense.  She also was perfect from the free-throw line, going 3-for-3.  Freshman Brittany Payne put up 13 points, three steals and Kallie Williams rounded things off with 10 points.  Senior guard Stacy Jones, who made a crazy buzzer-beater shot before the 1st half expired, led the team with 5 Mountie picks. Senior forward Jessica Salisbury left the game with an injury to her leg, after racking up 6 points. Whether or not she will start tomorrow is yet to be determined.
The Mountaineers play St. John’s College Sunday November 26 at 1 p.m. for the consolation while the Lady Bison take on the Lady Bobcats of Frostburg State in the championship game at 3 p.m.
Lady Bobcat senior guard Tracie George eclipsed a career milestone, scoring her 1,001st point off a trey in the opening minutes of the game against the Lady Bears.
