Faafiti claims her third CAC Player of the Week honor

YORK, Pa. - Junior center Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) earned her third Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday as the conference announced its women's basketball recipients for the week of January 11. Faafiti shares CAC Co-Player of the Week with Wesley College junior forward Angie Owens.
Faafiti earned back-to-back CAC Player of the Week honors on December 7 and 14. This is the fourth time a GU women's basketball player has been recognized this season. Senior forward Brittainy Payne (Pine Hill, N.J.) took home the honor on November 30.
Faafiti averaged 18 points, 9.5 rebounds and three steals in two conference games last week. She netted 23 points, six boards, four steals and two assists as the Bison snapped a 22-game losing streak vs. Salisbury University as the Bison hung on to win 69-68. She contributed 13 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in a 45-36 loss at University of Mary Washington in a showdown for second place. She has seven double-doubles in 10 games this season including one triple-double. Faafiti leads the CAC in scoring (18.6 per game), field goal percentage (.605), steals (4.6 per game), first in offensive rebounding (5.2 per game), third in rebounding (10.4 per game) and fourth in free throw percentage (.712).
Owens led Wesley to three wins, including a pair of conference wins that put the Wolverines back into the CAC playoff picture. Owens averaged 17.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 3.3 blocks per game while shooting 63 percent from the floor (including 5-of-6 from three-point range) in the three wins.
This is the eighth CAC Player of the Week award for Gallaudet University this season, the fourth for the winter teams. Last season, the Bison only had four CAC Player of the Week honorees for the entire year.
