Gallaudet women's basketball receives votes in national polls

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Days after knocking off its first nationally ranked team in over a decade the Gallaudet University women’s basketball program ended another long drought. The Bison received votes in two different national Division III women’s basketball polls this week.

Gallaudet (3-0) received two points in the Top 25 poll while the Bison earned a vote in the USA Today/ESPN Division III Top 25 coaches’ poll through the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The Bison still have a ways to go to crack the Top 25 poll but receiving votes is a good start for the Buff and Blue who enter North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) competition this week.

The team the Bison defeated 80-69 in overtime last Sunday, Lebanon Valley College (5-1), is still ranked in one poll and the first team receiving votes in the other. has the Dutchmen ranked No. 24, down four spots from last week, while the coaches’ poll has them as the first team receiving votes (unofficially No. 26) down from No. 17 last week. If you count out the teams receiving votes in the coaches’ poll the Bison would be No. 36.

Gallaudet is the only team from the NEAC to receive votes in either poll. Both polls are updated every Tuesday. Amherst College (4-0), a national semifinalist a year ago is ranked No. 1 in both polls.
