BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team won its third game in a row as it escaped with a 61-58 road win Tuesday night over Bryn Athyn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game.
Gallaudet (13-9, 12-6 NEAC) allowed Bryn Athyn (7-16, 6-12 NEAC) to get back in the game during the second half. The Bison held their largest lead of 18 points, 50-32, with 11:33 left in regulation before the Lions started to chip away at the margin. Seven minutes later, Bryn Athyn was only trailing GU by two, 55-53. Gallaudet hung on for the final four minutes and came away with its closest win of the season.
Senior guard Alexa Justus (Forks, Wash.) led the Bison offense with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals as she made 3 of 8 three-pointers. Junior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists. Senior forward Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied nine points and nine rebounds in limited action as she dealt with foul trouble. Senior guard Leslye Kang (Wayne, N.J.) came off the bench to score nine points and three rebounds while junior guard Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.) recorded seven points, two rebounds and two steals.
Brittany Vick paced the Lions' attack as she had a game-high 19 points as she made four three-pointers. Kristina Clark and Je'La Watson added 13 and 11 points, respectively, and Taylor Davis ripped down 12 rebounds in the loss.
Gallaudet shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) from the field in the first half as it took a 38-24 lead at the break.
GU sweeps the season series with Bryn Athyn as it won the previous meeting 62-44 on Jan. 8.
The Bison close out the regular-season schedule this weekend with two more conference games. GU will travel to Lancaster Bible College on Friday, Feb. 20, for a 5 p.m. game.
