CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team tallied another North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win on the road Saturday defeating Caznovia College, 67-60, in their fifth straight win.
Junior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) matched her career best point total with 28 points as she scored 15 in the first half. Gage made 12 of 22 shots from the field and grabbed eight rebounds, passed out five assists, three steals and one block.
Gallaudet (8-6, 7-3 NEAC) led from start to finish as the Bison scored the game's first 12 points before Cazenovia (6-8, 4-3 NEAC) got on the board with a Haley Zambito (12 points) three-pointer two and a half minutes in. GU took a 29-22 lead at halftime.
In the second half, senior forward Lane Peters (Phoenix, Ariz.) increased GU's lead to 12 points, 37-25, within the first three minutes. Though Cazenovia continued to battle, the Bison never lost the lead and only allowed the Wildcats to decrease the margin to four, 45-41, with 11:46 left in regulation.
Peters recorded her fifth double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks. Junior guard Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.) was the third Bison to score in double digits with 10 points. Senior forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had a game-high 13 rebounds, eight of which were on the offensive end of the court. Eight different Bison recorded points in the seven-point win. The Bison outrebounded the Wildcats 44-31 and had 12 fast break points.
Cazenovia was led by Zambito, Kali Davis and Erin O'Malley as the trio scored 12 points each.
The Bison, currently third in the NEAC South Division, remain in New York to face Morrisville State College (9-5, 5-2 NEAC) tomorrow (Sunday, Jan. 25) at noon. The Mustangs are second in the NEAC North Division. The Bison defeated Morrisville, 61-46, on the road last season.
