MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team only trailed Morrisville State College by three points at halftime but were outscored 42-19 in the second half as the Bison lost the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest, 75-49, on Sunday. The loss snaps Gallaudet's five-game winning streak.
Morrisville State (10-5, 6-2 NEAC) shot 60 percent from the field (15 of 25) in the second half and made 64.7 percent (11 of 17) of its free throw attempts while the Bison only made 32 percent from the field (8 of 25). The Mustangs scored 21 points off 23 Bison turnovers in the game.
Junior guard Zamica Gage (Washington, D.C.) led the Bison (8-7, 7-4 NEAC) with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. Juniors Danielle Warren (San Jose, Calif.) and Danielle Morris (St. Louis, Mich.) along with senior Leslye Kang (Wayne, N.J.) all scored nine points. Morris ed the team in rebounds (nine) while senior forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) grabbed six boards and four points.
Four different Mustangs scored in double figures led by Alyssa Gratien's 21 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals. Haley Kilmartin added 18 points, seven steals and four rebounds in the win. The Mustangs led 33-30 at the half.
The Bison return home to host NEAC South Division leader Penn St.-Abington (11-1, 8-0 NEAC) on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. GU lost to the Nittany Lions, 48-28, on the road earlier this month.
