Gulvas named CAC Women's Soccer Co-Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - The Capital Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference player of the week awards and Gallaudet University freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) was named the women's soccer co-recipient for the week of September 14. Gulvas shares the honor with Stevenson University freshman forward Melinda Kane.

Gulvas was outstanding as the Bison snapped a 37-game losing streak that dated back to 2006 when she recorded 11 saves, including several key stops in the second half, for a 2-0 win over Patrick Henry College. The day before she posted six saves against Valley Forge Christian College in 1-1 tie. This is the first two-game unbeaten streak for the Buff and Blue since October 9-10, 2006 when GU won back-to-back games against Lincoln University and Columbia Union College. The shutout is the first for GU since a 4-0 win over Trinity (D.C.) University of October 25, 2006.

In the two weekend games in the GU 1st Annual Tournament, Gulvas was able to lower her goals against average from 9.50 to 3.98. For the season, she has a 1-2-1 record where she has made 30 saves (.755 save percentage) in nearly 300 minutes of action.

Kane was just as impressive on the offensive end for Stevenson, scoring the game-winning goal twice and extending the Mustangs' win streak to three games. Kane has scored the game-winner in all three victories this season for the Mustangs.

Gallaudet will next host Christendom College on Wednesday, September 16, under the lights at Hotchkiss Field at 7:30 p.m.
