Strong second half leads Gallaudet to another shutout victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Two second half goals led the Gallaudet University women's soccer team to its second consecutive shutout as the Bison defeated Christendom College, 2-0, before a crowd of 125 at Hotchkiss Field on Wednesday night.
The win increases Gallaudet's unbeaten streak to three straight games after the Bison (2-2-1) began the season with two losses. The unbeaten streak is believed to be a school record. The women's soccer program began in 1995 and the school record for wins in a season is seven, which has happened twice (2002, '06).
In the second half, a light rain fell from the sky but that didn't slow down the Gallaudet offensive attack as the Bison took seven shots in the final 45 minutes of play. Two of the seven shots found the back of the net. The first goal came off the foot of freshman Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) who floated the ball over the head of Christendom goalie Taylor Anderson (five saves) for the goal. Arrigo was assisted on the play by senior forward Samantha Bulewich (West Springfield, Mass.) at the 71st minute.
As the light rain began to let up the Bison offense poured it on as GU pelted the Crusader (1-3) goal with shots. Freshman midfielder Maddie Morgan (Wilmington, Del.) blasted home her second goal of the year on a nice cross from Bulewich, her second assist in the game, at the 84th minute to put the game away.
Gallaudet freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) kept the Bison in the game in the first half as she made four saves. Gulvas, the reigning Capital Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week, ended the game with her second victory and five saves.
The Bison outshot Christendom 11-9 and took one more corner kick then the Crusaders, 5-4.
Gallaudet will look to extend its unbeaten streak to four on Friday night against Averett University at 7 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field.
