McDonough nets her ninth goal of the season
SALISBURY, Md. - Freshman Shaquana McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) continues her record setting women's soccer season as she netted her ninth goal of the season for Gallaudet University on Thursday afternoon on the road against Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) force Salisbury University. McDonough cut Salisbury's lead to two, 3-1, in the 24th minute but the Sea Gulls rattled off six more goals to end the game with a 9-1 victory.
Gallaudet (5-11-1, 0-7 CAC) will have one more chance to win a conference game next week when the Bison host winless Marymount (Va.) University (0-13, 0-6 CAC) on October 29.
The Bison got on the scoreboard when McDonough blasted a free kick from near midfield past Salisbury goalie Melissa Orgera (one save) who dove and just missed the ball.
McDonough has netted three of Gallaudet's four conference goals this season and assisted on the fourth. For the season, she has nine goals and one assist for a team-high 19 points in 11 games played.
Salisbury (9-3-2, 6-1 CAC), who is in first-place in the conference, had five different goal scorers in the game led by Jessica Robinson's three goals. Christina Eury and Julia Finecey both netted two goals for the maroon and gold.
SU outshot GU, 54-4, and took eight corner kicks to the three by the Bison. Gallaudet freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) made 12 saves in the first half while junior Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) played the second half and made 16 saves.
The Bison will next host Lincoln (Pa.) University on Saturday evening (October 24) at Hotchkiss Field for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference game during Homecoming Weekend.
