Bison turned away by Spartans

YORK, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's soccer faced a tough task on Tuesday against York (Pa.) College at Graham Field as the Spartans shut out the Bison, 8-0, in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Gallaudet (5-9-1, 0-6 CAC) had a great chance to get on the scoreboard in the 81st minute when freshman forward Shaquana McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) blasted her second shot of the game off the crossbar. McDonough had the only shots in the game for the Buff and Blue, who were outshot 29-2.

York (11-2-1, 4-0-1 CAC) scored the game's first goal just 33 seconds in as Kat Sipes headed home a pass from Erin Mummert (two assists). The Spartans had seven different goal scorers led by Ali Jones (two goals). York led 6-0 at the half.

Freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) started the game for the Bison as she logged 30 minutes and made six saves and allowed six goals. Junior goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) closed out the game as she allowed two goals and stopped three shots.

GU, who is in the final season as a member of the CAC, will get a sneak peak of its new conference the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) on Saturday, October 17, when the Bison welcome Penn State Harrisburg to Hotchkiss Field for a 5:30 p.m. game.
