Sharick's hat trick propels Keuka over Gallaudet, 4-1
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team fell 4-1 to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Keuka College Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field. The Bison (1-7, 0-3 NEAC) created several scoring chances early in the first half, but were ultimately unable to capitalize on enough opportunities for the win.
The Keuka Storm (3-4, 3-2 NEAC) were led by senior Nicole Sharick who recorded a hat trick in the game. Sharick opened the scoring with a strong shot from 20 yards out in the second minute. Freshman forward Louisenie Philostin (Orlando, Fla.) answered back 30 minutes later by driving home her own rebound. However, the Bison finished the half down 2-1 after Keuka junior Jessica Bandrowski netted a 36th minute kick into the top left corner of the goal from deep on the right side of the field.
Despite a strong effort by senior goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.), the buff and blue were never able to get back into the game in the second half. In fact, the only remaining scores were both Sharick's, who completed her hat trick with goals in the 54th and 68th minute, respectively. For the game, Gulvas stopped 16 of 20 shots on goal, including an excellent save against Bandrowski in the 43rd minute. Freshman defenseman Megan Calik (Conyers, Ga.) led the Bison with five shots, including three on net. GU finished the contest with nine shots on goal.
The Bison look to rebound on the road against conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
