CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team completed its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) weekend in New York with a Sunday game at Cazenovia College. The Bison came up short and lost 13-2.
Sophomore midfielder Megan Calik (Conyers, Ga.) had a career day as she scored two goals on three shots on goal. Calik capitalized on two Cazenovia fouls in the goalie box, which gave Gallaudet two penalty kick opportunities.
GU (2-13-2, 1-8-1 NEAC) trailed 1-0 early but quickly answered with a Calik penalty kick that got past Cazenovia goalie Breanne Warner (two saves) to tie the game, 1-1, 15 minutes in. Cazenovia (7-9, 6-4 NEAC) netted 11 unanswered goals led by Emily Graham (four goals), Jessica Russo (two goals) and Taylor Lynch (two goals). The Wildcats led 7-1 at the half.
The Bison received their second penalty kick opportunity in the 80th minute as Calik converted again with a shot past Warner. The Wildcats scored their final goal of the game, four minutes later, as the 13 goals scored are a new a season-high.
This is the fourth time this season the Bison scored two or more goals. GU has lost by double-digit goal totals twice this year.
Senior goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) started in goal and allowed seven first half goals on eight shots faced and made one save. Sophomore Jennifer Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) played the second half and gave up six goals on 12 shots faced and made six saves.
