Gallaudet nets season-high goal total against Mary Baldwin

STAUNTON, Va. – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team erased an early 2-0 deficit and tied the game right before halftime on the road Tuesday afternoon against Mary Baldwin College. The Fighting Squirrels (5-1) broke the 2-2 tie with an unassisted goal by Mayzie Lewis at the 75:51 mark as the host won, 3-2.

The Bison (0-6-1) netted back-to-back goals in a six-minute window, to set the season-high goal total for a single game, late in the first half after they trailed 2-0 just five minutes into the game. Junior midfielder Kelsey Koenigs (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) got the Bison on the scoreboard with her first goal at Gallaudet off an assist from senior defender Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.). Junior midfielder Sofia Lindevall (Stockholm, Sweden) scored her second goal of the season thanks to an assist from senior midfielder Monique Balcarcel (Lansing, Mich.) in the 43rd minute.

Senior goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) got the start for the Bison in net and made five saves in the first half of play. Sophomore Jennifer Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) made her collegiate debut in the second half and faced six shots on goal and stopped five of them in the final 45 minutes of action. 

Mary Baldwin goalie Erin Dullahan made five saves in the game. Caitlin Novak scored the first two goals of the game for the Fighting Squirrels. Mary Baldwin outshot Gallaudet 23-10 and both teams recorded seven corner kicks. 

The Bison return home to host SUNYIT in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. on Hoy Field.
