Bison stopped by conference leader Penn St.-Berks

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team was unable to stop the current North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) leader Penn St.-Berks as the Nittany Lions outscored the Bison 14-0 at Hoy Field. The loss snaps Gallaudet's two-game winning streak.

The Nittany Lions (12-2-1, 9-0 NEAC) scored early in the fifth minute and didn't look back. Freshmen forwards Simone Stewart (two assists) and Lizzie Mummau combined for nine points, scoring a hat trick and four goals, respectively. Penn St.-Berks spread its attack around as eight players scored goals and nine recorded shots on goal. The Nittany Lions continued the pressure throughout the game as they scored six goals in the first half and eight in the second, with the last coming in the 87th minute.

Gallaudet's (2-11-1, 1-6 NEAC) senior goalkeeper Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) had a busy day in net as the Bison were forced to play on their side of the field for the majority of the game. The current NEAC leader in saves was able to stop 11 of the 17 shots on goal that she faced. This is the biggest margin of defeat for the Bison since they lost 16-0 to York (Pa.) College during the 2008 season.

The Bison will play their last home game of the 2013 season at Hotchkiss Field tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 13) at 1 p.m., against conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill (0-10, 0-6 NEAC) on Senior Day.
