WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University's women's soccer team saw its 2014 season come to a close Friday night as the Bison lost, 5-1, to North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn College on homecoming weekend. The game marked the final contest for four Gallaudet seniors, who recognized before the match began.
Penn College (5-12, 4-7 NEAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Robyn Beddow (one assist) and Hailee Hartman (two goals) scored the first two marks. Freshman Anastasia Murray (Raleigh, N.C.) helped the Bison cut the lead in half with her sixth goal of the season, a team best total, off deep pass from sophomore Nicole Smith (St. Louis, Mo.) in the 16th minute. The Wildcat offense added one more goal before halftime and padded its lead with two goals in the second half.
Junior goalie Jennifer Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) made 10 saves for Bison as she saw 15 shots on goal. Gallaudet (3-14, 2-10 NEAC) was outshot 11-8 in the second half, an improvement from the first half (20-3).
Gallaudet sends off four seniors; Sofia Lindevall (Stockholm, Sweden), Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Sarah Dolphin (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Erin LaFave (Troy, Mich.) as the quartet played their last game for the buff and blue. Lindevall started in 50 games in her three-year career totaling 19 goals, five assists and 43 points. Ciccarelli played in 65 games (started 60) and was a standout defender turning away opponent's top players year-in, year-out. She also scored a goal during the 2012 season. Dolphin played two years (2012, '14) at midfield where she saw action 18 games (10 starts) and posted six shots. LaFave, only played one year, but started nine of the 12 games she played. She was a force up front for the Bison offense as tallied one goal and one assist.
The game also marked the conclusion of the first season for head coach Liza Offreda, who will return 12 players for the 2015 season.
