WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's soccer team snapped its 10-game losing streak Saturday afternoon in exciting fashion as it beat North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Wilson College, 2-1, at Hotchkiss Field.
Wilson (2-9, 0-8 NEAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute as Erin Stephan netted an unassisted goal from 30 yards out.
Gallaudet (2-10, 1-7 NEAC) found the equalizer in the 69th minute when senior captain Sofia Lindevall (Stockholm, Sweden) netted her second goal of the season. With time running out Megan Calik (Conyers, Ga.) took a free kick and sailed the ball over Wilson goalkeeper Teniera Prioleau (seven saves) for the game-winning goal with 44 seconds left in regulation to clinch the 2-1 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) was rock-solid in net for GU as she saved 13 of the 14 shots faced.
The Bison return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as they face Christendom College on the road at 5 p.m.
