WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team wrapped up a full weekend of action here on a quaint Sunday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field. The Bison went up against Penn St.-Berks, the top team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), and were shutout 8-0.
The Nittany Lions (10-1-2, 8-0 NEAC) took the lead early with two goals in just five minutes. Gallaudet (2-12, 1-7 NEAC) was unable to get any shots off in the first half but senior goalie Jennifer Livengood (Jacksonville, Fla.) played a phenomenal game as she made nine of her 13 saves in the first half.
The Nittany Lions' high powered offense that averages 5.7 goals per game took a barrage of shots (42 total) on Gallaudet's goal. Penn St.-Berks played a fair game, making many substitutions (22 players played) and passing often, as seven of its eight goals were assisted and six different players recorded points. The Nittany Lions lead Division III in total goals with 74. Dana Sarcinello led the way with three goals and three assists followed by Kaylie Smucker's hat trick and Caitlin Golden added two goals and one assist. Golden leads the conference with 18 goals this season.
GU finally got two shots off, late in the game, thanks to sophomore Anastasia Murray (Raleigh, N.C.). One of her shots was a header that went wide right of the goal.
