ABINGTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team wrapped up its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) road weekend here Sunday with a 7-0 loss to Penn St.-Abington.
Gallaudet (1-4, 0-3 NEAC) was unable to stop the Penn St.-Abington high-powered offense led by Michelle Latronica, who had four goals and one assist. Latronica scored the first goal, 19 minutes in, and a trio of consecutive goals to begin the second half in the win.
Latronica was the first Nittany Lion to get on the scoreboard when she took a shot in the 19th minute off of a free kick that bounced off the right post and into the back of the net. Haley Miller scored the first of two straight goals in the 33rd minute as the Nittany Lions (4-3, 3-2 NEAC) took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, two Bison fouls in the box led to penalty kicks for Penn St.-Abington. Latronica took both penalty kicks for the Nittany Lions, beating Bison goalkeeper Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), and completing her hat trick.
Penn St.-Abington scored two meaningless goals in the final nine minutes of play.
- Levesque made 11 saves
- Senior Ashleigh Warden (Tucson, Ariz.) made her 55th carreer start
- Gallaudet was held to one shot on goal, one corner kick
The Bison look to rebound this Friday, Sept. 23, with a road NEAC game at St. Elizabeth (0-5, 0-2 NEAC) at 2 p.m.
