WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University women's soccer opened conference play with a loss to Wilson College on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon at Hoy Field.
Sophomore Deltona Markel (Austin, Texas) got the opportunity to start in goal for the Bison in the first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game of the season.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the first half as Wilson (3-0, 1-0 NEAC) outshot the Bison (0-2, 0-1 NEAC) by six, 7-1. Markel saved all five shots on goal that she faced in the first half.
Wilson gained momentum at the beginning of the second half when Jessie Thrush got the ball at the top of the box and put it just out of Markel's reach for her first goal of the season.
Wilson added two more goals by Nana Ohene-Manu (69th minute) and Noemi Regan (79th minute).

- The Bison combined for six shots in the 2nd half
The Bison welcome Mary Baldwin College tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 11) at 1 p.m. for a non-conference game at Hotchkiss Field.
