GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week selections for Jan. 23, and Gallaudet University freshman Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) was named NEAC Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week after a dominant performance last Saturday at the Field House pool.
Polivanchuk made an immediate impact in her debut for the Bison, winning three races and setting a new school record in the process. The freshman swimmer broke the previous 100-yard IM record with a time of 1:04.69, breaking Carlisle Robinson’s record set in 2008 by 1.06 seconds. Polivanchuk also won the 100 butterfly (1:04.63) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.01). However, Hood College edged the Bison by five points, 104-99, to win the non-conference dual meet. This was the final home meet for the Bison this season.
This is Polivanchuk’s first award and the second for the Bison women’s swimming program this season. Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) was awarded the NEAC Women’s Swimmer Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 24, 2011.
The Gallaudet women’s swimming team will visit College of Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.
