COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women’s swimming and diving team sits in fourth place after the first day of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships on Friday being hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.
Sophomore Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:23.95 to earn 16 team points. Polivanchuk, the reigning NEAC Women’s Swimmer of the Year, was nearly eight seconds faster than Laura Krasniqi from Cazenovia College, who finished second with a time of 2:31.58. GU junior Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) was eighth in the event (2:48.35) followed by freshman Paige Foreman (Albuquerque, N.M.) in 10th place (3:06.74) and junior Lisa van der Mark (Mijnsheerenland, The Netherlands) was 12th when she touched the wall in 3:25.44.
Gallaudet tallied 99 points and sit behind defending champion Wells College (165 points), Cazenovia (131) and College of St. Elizabeth (103). SUNY Cobleskill is fifth with 93 points.
GU placed third in the 400 medley relay as the team of Polivanchuk, junior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.), Farr and freshman Liv Polzin (Frederick, Md.) finished in 5:04.36 to earn 24 team points.
The trio of Polivanchuk, Giles, Polzin and freshman Brianna Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.52) to grab 20 additional points for the Bison.
The second day of the NEAC swimming and diving championships will take place Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. in seven different events.
