Bison women's swimming team completes double dual meet sweep

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's swimming and diving team hosted Penn St.-Altoona while the women's team hosted Cedar Crest College and Penn St.-Altoona in a double dual meet at the Field House pool on Saturday. Gallaudet's women's team earned two wins as it defeated Penn St-.Altoona, 110-85, and Cedar Crest College, 140-46. Cedar Crest is a new affiliate member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference. The Nittany Lions beat the Bison men, 144-60.

The Bison men's 200-yard medley relay team of senior DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.), junior Abdiel Davila-Cruz (Orlando, Fla.), freshman Ryan Klock (Puyallup, Wash.) and sophomore Maurice Abenchuchan (St. Augustine, Fla.) placed second with a time of 1:55.93. Everton-Lovell also placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.71). Everton-Lovell, Abenchuchan, senior Tony Dall (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Zachary Kohler (Union City, Calif.) also placed second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:02.93. The Bison (0-4) placed second, third and fourth in the 1,000 freestyle as they were paced by freshman Jose Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) with a time of 15:24.15.

The Bison women (3-3) started the day off with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Senior Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden), senior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.), sophomore Paige Foreman (Albuquerque, N.M.) and sophomore Mirriah Elphage Bernard completed the race in 2:11.21. Polivanchuk also placed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.65. Junior Lisa Murphy (Bothell, Wash.) helped lead the Bison as she finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:13.70) and second in the 200 individual medley (2:40.39). Sophomore Brianna Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) also took a first place finish in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 2:28.61. Senior Christina Aboudi (Pleasanton, Calif.), sophomore Marla Rabenstein (Altoona, Pa.), Maggie Kopp, and senior Lisa van der Mark (Mijinsheerenland, The Netherlands) finished first in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 6:07.67. Freshmen Thyra Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) and Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.) earned second in the 100 freestyle (1:03.54) and 1,000 freestyle (12:36.67), respectively.

The GU swimming and diving teams will travel to Towson, Md., for a double dual meet against Goucher College and Arcadia University on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m.
