Gallaudet women's team in fifth place after first day at 2015 NEAC championships

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team sits in fifth place after the first day of competition at the 2015 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships being held here at SUNY Cobleskill.

The Bison amassed 71 team points after six events on Friday evening and trail the host Fighting Tigers who are in first place with 182 points. Cazenovia College is second in with 125 points followed by Cedar Crest College (118), three-time defending NEAC champion Wells College (108). College of St. Elizabeth is in sixth place with 49 points.

Sophomore Thyra Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 28.20 seconds while teammate Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.) was ninth with a time of 28.55.

Gallaudet had two relay teams finish fifth overall in the 400 medley relay (5:15.51) and the 200 freestyle relay (2:00.89) to earn 20 points each towards the team total.

The second day of the NEAC swimming and diving championships will take place Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 6 p.m. in seven different events.
