GU women's team finishes NEAC championships in fifth place

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The third and final day of the 2016 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) swimming and diving championships drew to a close at the Stephen M. Schneeweiss Athletic Complex on the Cazenovia College campus. Gallaudet University finished fifth overall as defending conference champion Cazenovia celebrated another title here Sunday night.

Gallaudet finished the three-day meet with 253 team points after 20 events. The host Wildcats swam away with the title with 730 points. Wells College was a distant second with 399 points followed by SUNY Cobleskill (329) and Cedar Crest College (304).

Senior Brianna Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) placed sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 23 minutes, 4.62 seconds. Senior Paige Foreman (Albuquerque, N.M.) finished 10th (24:57.62), senior Shuxu Tian (Tongling, China) was 11th (29:15.09) and sophomore Faye Frez-Albrecht (Canton, Conn.) finished the event in 27:37.35.

Senior Katie Bigelow (Flushing, Mich.) finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:08.03 to earn nine team points. 

Freshman Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) was fifth in the 200 butterfly as she touched the wall in 3:03.42, while Foreman placed eighth (3:32.07).

The meet concluded with the 400 freestyle relay where Gallaudet's team of freshman Alyssa Hanbury (Orlando, Fla.), junior Paige-Cecily Ramos (New York, N.Y.), Foreman and Tian finished fifth with a time of 5:18.09.

  • Tian was ninth in the 100 IM with a time of 1:46.32
  • Hanbury was eighth in the 200 backstroke (3:03.17)
  • Ramos was 11th in the 200 breaststroke (3:27.21)

SENIORS
Today marked the final swim competition for Gallaudet's seniors led by four-year letterwinners Stroud-Williams and Foreman along with two-year letterwinner Tian.
