Gallaudet's men's swimming and diving team went 4-6 overall and 2-1 in NEAC competition during the 2016-17 regular season. At the NEAC championships in 2016 the Bison finished in third place with a total of 345 points in 20 events. Wells College took the title with 508.5 points while SUNY Cobleskill came in a close second with 506.5 points. The host Wildcats came in a distant fourth with 83 points.
"The team has worked hard to prepare for the NEAC championships, especially during the Winter Break when they trained four hours per day for two weeks," said Gallaudet swimming and diving coach Larry Curran. "Following the last meet (Jan. 21), they focused on quality and began to reduce the overall distance swum in each practice. Finally, the focus shifted to racing and racing techniques while resting for the upcoming competition. They are well prepared and looking for personal and season best times."
Gallaudet last won a NEAC swimming championship in 2014 when the Bison men's team won their third title. GU men's titles earned came in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2013-14. The Gallaudet women's team has one NEAC title (2010-11).
This will mark the fourth time Cazenovia College has hosted the NEAC Championships since swimming and diving was adopted as a conference sport in 2009-10. This year's meet will include five schools; Cazenovia, Cedar Crest, Gallaudet, SUNY Cobleskill and Wells.
