WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women’s swimming team crushed College of St. Elizabeth 155-49 on Sunday at home in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) meet. The Bison overmatched the Eagles and swept all 12 events at the Field House pool.
Seniors Carlisle Robinson (Carmel, Ind.), Katie Day (St. Elmo, Ill.), Misella Tomita (Kahului, Hawaii) and sophomore Tong Song (Beijing, China) won two individual events each. Senior Katie Johnson (Lake Alexander, Minn.) won the 500-yard freestyle (7:03.27) and freshman Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) was first in the one meter diving competition. The Bison (4-5, 2-0 NEAC) also swept the two relay events.
Robinson was first to the wall in the 1,000-yard freestyle by over a minute with a time of 12:58.10. The senior also took first in the 200 butterfly (2:50.22). Day took home first-place honors in two different freestyle events. She was first in the 50 freestyle (29.58 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (1:06.59). Tomita was first in the 200 free style (2:27.23) and the 200 backstroke (2:46.31). Song was first in the 200 IM (2:42.07) and the 200 breaststroke (3:02.37).
The combo of Tomita, Song, Robinson and Day were on the first-place 400 medley relay team who touched the wall in 5:16.74. In the final event of the meet the Bison won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:56.34, 15 seconds faster then the Eagles. Gallaudet’s winning team consisted of Johnson, senior Rachel Steingieser (New Market, Md.), junior Emily Stemper (Harrisonburg, Va.) and freshman Alyssa Gleason (Springfield, Va.).
Gallaudet jumps back in the pool on Wednesday, January 26, as the Bison host College of Notre Dame (Md.) in a non-conference meet scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
