Women's indoor track team races in Vince Brown Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's indoor track and field team competed here Saturday as they participated in the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport University in the Freeman Center.

Senior Shellane McKitty (Yonkers, N.Y.) was the top finisher for the Bison. Her best finish came in the 400-meter dash when she crossed the finish line in one minute, 7.09 seconds which was good for a 29th place finish out of 43 runners. 

In the 200-meter dash, McKitty took 50th place with a time of 29.64 seconds. She also competed in the 60-meter dash where she placed 49th of 58 (8.93).

Three Bison threw the shot put and finished close together. Freshman Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) placed 45th with a toss of 6.34 meters (20 feet, 9.75 inches) as she trailed the first-place winner by 21 feet. Junior Amanda Lopez (Yonkers, N.Y.) placed 46th as her first toss went 5.92 meters (19 feet, 5.25 inches) and senior Abby Courtemanche (Southbridge, Mass.) placed 48th out of 48 with a throw of 5.18 meters (17 feet).

BISON TRACKS

  • In the 200-meter dash Anyia Brown took 79th place (32.14) and Courtney Langford took 82nd place (33.12)
  • Brown took 57th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.43
  • Levesque finished 58th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.92

GU will return to the blocks on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. when they compete at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.
